Projects Coalition Against Poverty UN Gold Star Updates
|
Education The Education project of PONT aims to link up Primary and Secondary Schools in Pontypridd with schools in Mbale District. Many of the school in Pontypridd have now linked with schools in the region of Mbale. There has been correspondence sent to and received from our partner schools in Mbale. Pupils, teachers and non-teaching staff in the schools are eager to establish lasting relationships which will be mutually beneficial to all the parties involved. Pupils in both regions want to learn more about the lives and cultures of their counterparts. The letters that we have received from schools in Mbale have been very warm and friendly and clearly show a huge commitment to the partnership.
Pontypridd is
now officially twinned As a result of previous visits when Geoff Herbert and Cath & Phil Rickards had the opportunity to meet with teachers and pupils in school, it became apparent that resources in the schools in Uganda are very scarce and that schools would benefit from a variety of teaching aids and resources. Teachers commented on how beneficial it would be to receive magazines as a teaching resource. With this in mid, we are looking to get our schools to subscribe to educational magazines, beginning with National Geographic, that will be sent directly to Mbale and used as a valuable teaching resource. In time we hope to be able to subscribe to other magazines that will support the curriculum in Mbale schools. On a recent visit to South Wales, Edith W. brought schemes of work and an outline of the curriculum which we will now use to provide what resources we can to support the work of teachers in the schools. Listed below are all the schools that are currently involved in this exciting project but any school is welcome to be a part of this partnership, the schools in Uganda are, first and foremost, looking for our friendship and interest in their lives, we can all offer this receive a warm and rewarding friendship in return. If your school is interested in this please contact us of more details. There is a brief over view of the education system in Mbale.
