Visits to Mbale

June 08 - a group of 12 mathematics students from the University of Glamorgan, 2 teachers, and a university lecturer, visited schools in Mbale. The group split into two teams and between them visited 12 schools acting as classroom assistants, marking books, helping pupils with their mathematics exercises and teaching classes. They also played football, net-ball and rounders with the Ugandan pupils, and helped forge links between the Mbale schools and their partner schools in RCT.

May 08 - a group including Engineers, Health Care Professionals including ambulance personal and university lectures visited Mbale to commission the engineering workshop, and assess the links that are currently being undertaken.

April 08 - A Vist by Liz Ollier to conduct an evaluation on behalf of DIFD.

Feb 08 - Cath and Phil Richard visit with Hane Hutt AM (Minister of Education in Wales) to review the school links.

Nov 07 - Medical team visit with 12 members including GP's and hospital staff

Sept 07 - A mixed team of politication's, including Jane Davidson AM (minister for Environment), University lectures, School teachers, Church leaders, an engineer, a policeman visit to review and establish new projects. During the visit the team met with the Vice President of Uganda and later with the Minister for Health.

July 07 - AP makes an additional visit to evaluate OPL training

July 07 - Several families visit Mbale with their children

June 07 - Rev. C Burr and Youth Worker, Alan Davies, lead a church group of 38, including 16 young people, visited churches, schools and PONT projects in Mbale. The group was mainly drawn from Llantrisant Parish Church and Pontypridd Christian Youth. The visit helped develop links, change people's outlook and has inspired some to take up new projects.

April 07 - An university lecture, AP, visits Mable to evaluate the OPL training program.

Feb 07 - Rob Rowlands travels to Mable for 6 months in order to help establish the Collation Against Poverty

May 06 - a team of 12 church leaders and members visit to further the process of church twinning. They are accompanied by a TV crew making a documentary for BBC Wales.

Feb 06 - a team of 6 teachers (and 4 others) visit schools in the area to begin the process of school twinning.

Nov 05 - a team of 6 GP's a hospital consultant, an engineer and a teacher visit to review the initial projects

May 05 - a team of 17 (medics, teachers, church leaders and administrators) visit Mbale to formally consolidate the twinning of Pontypridd town with Mbale and initiate the projects- School twinning, health care surveys, training of health workers, mosquito net distribution and goats for vulnerable families.

 

 

Mar 05 - Rob Rowlands visits for 3 months, to work the 3 partner NGO's and prepare the way for the twinning.

 

 

 

 

 

Nov 04 - a team of 9 ( medics, teachers and administrators) visit Mbale and begin discussions with Mbale committee about potential projects.

 

 

Feb 04 - Geoff Lloyd, Dewi Hughes (TEAR FUND adviser) and Jonathan Winfree visit Mbale and confirm it as an ideal area to twin with after meeting further NGO leaders and other key people.

 

 

Aug 03 - Geoff Lloyd (GP) and Sharon Graves (Teacher) visit Mbale with CARE AND SHARE and identify it as a potential town for the twinning having received a warm welcome from civic leaders, politicians, NGO leaders and church leaders.

Aug 02 - Carolyn Norris (physiotherapist) visits Uganda with CARE AND SHARE and identifies Uganda as a suitable country for the project.
